|Harold "Harry" Cleberg was born and raised on a farm near Redfield and believed in the philosophy of strength in numbers. To that end, Harry began working for Farmland Industries, a regional farm cooperative with 1,700 members throughout the Midwest. In 1991, Cleberg was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization where he stabilized the company and recast it into the country’s largest and strongest farmer-owned operation. Under Cleberg's leadership, the co-operative’s assets have nearly quadrupled and Farmland has been listed among Fortune magazine’s top 200 companies.
Clerberg’s contributions to South Dakota extend far beyond his business. He has served as chairman of the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce and has been involved with the Future Farmers of America. In 1996, he received the Distinguished Business Leader Award presented by Park College and was named Agri-Marketer of the Year by the National Agri-Marketing Association.
