|Archie Cosgrove was Chairman of Trades and Labor Assembly in Rapid City from 1934-35. Prior to this, he was the Democratic precinct committeeman, 4th ward, Rapid City, S.D., from 1932-34.
Cosgrove was a 32nd degree Mason, Yankton SD for 23 years. He was also a member of Black Hills Pioneer Society, Range Riders of Montana, The Last Roundup Club, and Butte County Historical Society. <p>Mr. Cosgrove was very modest about his life, and said that it was divided into 4 parts: cowboy, raising his family, working for the corps of engineers, and retirement. <p>Working for the corps of engineers, Cosgrove was an inspector on general construction for the Ft. Randall Dam across the Missouri River, for Gavins Point Dam, and he built docks in the Saint Lawrence Seaway in New York. He also worked on missile bases in Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and in South Dakota on the Oahe Dam. Cosgrove also did some work at Ellsworth Air Force Base before his retirement in 1961.
